I complete my art works to express the dynamism connecting various existences or phenomena in this world. I would like to show people interactions among people, things and events through sensorial experience of my works.
I use the word “dynamism” as the philosopher G.W.Leibniz does. Assuming the word has two meanings that are “precessional interaction” and “inevitable coincidence”, I adopt it to expressing my concept. When individuals observe their dynamism, the dynamism will let them trace the tracks that have grown omni-directionally in space and go irreversibly in time as well as encounters or events of human life. (for example, if an observer trace the track of human life, it will be one way like a video recording, and if he/she draws it, it will be like a map drawn without lifting the pen from the paper. )
My career as an artist started from becoming an art instructor of different workshops in a museum and then I became aware of effects of sensorial experience through touching artworks directly. While working as an instructor, I studied contemporary art on my own. On the other hand, I learned basics of fine art from modern artists in Japan, and I was influenced by Japanese modern art like Mono-ha, Japanese minimal art that expresses beauty in relationship between object and space. This is how I became interested in relationship.
However, while their works are rather static and have no people involved, my works are dynamic and offer opportunities for people to complete the works by interacting with them. I believe the world is made of interactions by people, things, and events that keep crossing, changing and expanding in time and space, and what expresses this belief of mine is my art work, which is described below.
I think what expresses relationships that occur from dynamism and the interactions in the world is what lets people sense phenomena that can not be observed with static visual information only. That's why I design all of my works in order to let people experience the dynamism sensorially and intuitively. Besides, to share my concept, I change my materials and techniques depending upon circumstances and the specific things that I try to express.
With my recent works, I particularly attempted to let people sense metaphysical structures of dynamism through their physical experience, by building spherical soft sculptures as typical images of the world. I employed this three-dimensional network as the model of the dynamism and I built these works by weaving just one single line to express a traced track of dynamism. I chose different characteristic metal wires and three different ways of weaving to make the works sensorial.
By doing so, each of these works offered a unique sense of touch for people to enjoy touching it, and people did enjoy it. Then, my works and people are involved with each other, and both of them cooperatively make a small local world that is free of my control, and that is the most interesting thing for me in my artist life.
Although this is an example of my projects in the past, my concept will be coherent to the near future.
I keep expecting my art works to offer people new perspectives of the world in a beautiful manner.
